Dying Matters Awareness Week - 18-24 May 2015

Each May, the Dying Matters coalition runs its annual awareness week (www.dyingmatters.org/YODO) to raise the public’s understanding of why planning for the end of your life is so important.  There are a huge number of events and online activities taking place throughout the week which are designed to get the public talking about death – which is seemingly still one of the most taboo subjects to discuss!

The importance of planning for your death cannot be underestimated.  While it’s safe to say that it won’t be a task that many of us look forward to, having a plan in place will ensure that your family isn’t subjected to additional stress and upset at what will undoubtedly be an emotional time.  Planning well in advance for when the time comes can also be a positive experience which enables you to ensure that you leave a lasting legacy that benefits the people you want it to. 

Dying Matters is aiming to raise awareness of five key tasks that everyone should consider doing:

• Write your will
• Record your funeral wishes
• Plan your future care and support
• Consider registering as an organ donor
• Tell your loved ones your wishes
