Probate can be complicated; we're on hand to help. Here are some of the most common questions we see when people first lose a loved one and need to look after their estate.
Probate typically takes up to 16 weeks once an application has been submitted, though timescales can vary depending on factors like court delays or complexities with the estate itself. To fully complete the estate administration process, it can take 6 to 12 months or more. At Kings Court Trust, we focus on making the probate process as efficient as possible, keeping you informed every step of the way to ensure clarity and peace of mind.
Depending on the service chosen, our fixed fee can just cover obtaining the Grant of Probate (or Letters of Administration), or you can select services all the way up to comprehensive estate administration, including handling assets, debts, taxes, and distributions to beneficiaries. Please note, third-party costs like property valuations or probate application fees are separate, but we clearly communicate these upfront to avoid surprises.
No, you don't need to visit our office in person. Our service is designed for convenience and flexibility, allowing us to handle everything remotely via phone, email, or online. However, if you prefer meeting face-to-face, you're always welcome to visit our Bristol office, or we can organise to visit you. We’re here to support you in whichever way is most comfortable.
To start the probate process, you'll typically need the death certificate, the original Will (if one exists), and basic details about the estate’s assets and debts. Don’t worry if you don't have everything immediately; we’ll guide you through exactly what's needed and provide support at every stage, making the process straightforward and clear.
If there’s no valid Will, the estate will be managed according to intestacy rules, usually benefiting close family members such as a spouse or children. In these cases, a relative can apply for Letters of Administration. Our experienced team will provide clear guidance and compassionate support throughout, ensuring the estate is properly handled even without a Will.
