Full Estate Administration

Your step-by-step guide

STEP 1
Start with a friendly chat

Tell us what's happened and what you need. We'll listen, answer immediate questions, and explain how we can help. It's useful to start to pull together a list of all assets (bank accounts, properties, shares, etc.) and liabilities (credit cards, utility bills, etc.) in preparation for the process.

STEP 2
Bespoke fixed-fee quote

We'll give you a clear, fixed price tailored to the estate, without hourly rates or hidden extras, so you can decide with confidence. This will be sent in a comprehensive quote document that sets out exactly what we'll do.

STEP 3
Meet your Personal Estate Manager

If you agree to our quote, we'll introduce you to your Personal Estate Manager. They'll be a specialist dedicated to your case to oversee everything, keep you updated, and be your single point of contact. Depending on your preferences, they'll normally look after you either via email or phone primarily.

STEP 4
Simple onboarding

We'll complete ID checks and gather key documents from you (such as the Will, death certificate, asset details, etc.) to get things moving quickly. You'll need to fill in our Estate Information Form (EIF), which is where we collate all known information in one place.

STEP 5
Notify banks and institutions

We contact all known asset and liability holders, request valuations at the date of death, and ask them to deal with us directly. You'll be given some breathing room to focus on remembering the person you've lost, rather than chasing or being chased by different institutions.

STEP 6
Valuations and technical review

We'll establish the gross and net estate values and assess the legal and tax position. This ensures the Grant application is accurate the first time.

STEP 7
Inheritance Tax forms (if required)

We prepare and submit the Inheritance Tax (IHT) paperwork, arrange any payments due, and handle HMRC queries to avoid delays. IHT must typically be paid within six months of death, so we work hard to have the steps before this completed in advance.

STEP 8
Apply for the Grant

We prepare and submit the Grant of Probate (or Letters of Administration if there is no Will) and chase progress with the Registry. Whilst we are waiting for the Grant to be returned, we will begin writing to any beneficiaries to let them know what information we need from them.

STEP 9
Grant received; administration begins

With the Grant in hand, we are now able to encash or transfer assets, settle liabilities, and progress property and shareholdings.

STEP 10
Collect assets & settle debts

We liaise with each institution's requirements, bring funds into the estate account, and pay verified debts and expenses.

STEP 11
Beneficiary checks & updates

We complete beneficiary ID and anti-fraud checks, provide regular progress updates, and, where appropriate, discuss interim asset distributions.

STEP 12
Final tax & HMRC clearance

We reconcile Income Tax and Capital Gains Tax during administration and obtain tax clearances so the estate can be wrapped up properly.

STEP 13
Estate accounts for approval

You'll receive clear, comprehensive estate accounts showing all money in and out, ready for your review and approval.

STEP 14
Final distribution & closure

We pay the beneficiaries in line with the Will or intestacy rules, provide completion paperwork, and close the estate - giving you peace of mind.
